NDIS bathroom modifications
If you are receiving financial support under the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) for bathroom renovation and modifications, we can help. Following your home assessment, our team can incorporate the modifications requested by your occupational therapist into your bathroom renovation, in coordination with your NDIS planner or coordinator.
Thoughtful design by an expert experienced in NDIS bathroom design can make all the difference. Special features in the right places ensure compliance and maximise safety, comfort and functionality.
NDIS bathroom features
Disabilities and acquired injuries can severely affect a person’s strength, coordination and sensations impacting their muscle mass, range of movement, balance and nervous system. Our designs can be fully accessible or include special features for clients who have some mobility, but need extra support for safety and stability:
- Walk-in or roll-in shower
- Handheld shower head
- Widened doorways
- Built-in or foldable shower seats
- Grab rails (toilet, bathtub)
- Non-slip flooring
- Raised rimless toilet
- Toilet raiser
- Low-mounted sink/vanity
- Lever handles
- Space for mobility aids and manoeuvrability
- Emergency call systems
- Transfer equipment (hoists)
- Sensory options (dimmed lighting, noise control)
- Sliding doors
Correctly installed, quality features can provide stability for getting up and safe movement between the toilet, shower and sink either standing or from a wheelchair. They can also accommodate mobility aids (like crutches, walkers, wheelchairs and scooters) and assist task-specific functions which may involve a carer, such as showering while seated.

Accessibility and regulatory compliance
All NDIS-funded building works must comply with relevant laws and regulatory frameworks, including the National Construction Code and the applicable Australian Standards, which regulate home modifications.
Specifically, the applicable current Australian Standard for accessible bathrooms is 1428.1:2021 (Design for Access and Mobility). Our team is fully knowledgeable on these standards and ensures that all compliance requirements are met and incorporated into your NDIS bathroom design.
NDIS bathroom design
We recognise that every person’s capacity, disability and mobility experience is unique so it’s important that each NDIS bathroom renovation is tailored carefully to suit each client and their home. It should also be safe, compliant and sanitary (easy to clean). Our team takes the time to listen and understand your requirements.
Quality selection and smart positioning of key functional components assists ease of access, movement and functionality.
- Easy access, layout and flow
- Modified plumbing and electrical placement
- Ease of use and controls for key functions (shower/sink/toilet)
- Equipment for stability and transfers placement
- Adequate and safe heating and ventilation
- Space for manoeuvrability and storage
- Client-preferred aesthetics and ambience
- Safety and compliance sign-off
Our team is skilled at incorporating custom features for clients with disabilities and varying levels of mobility including difficulty walking or partial/full paralysis. Accessibility and safety provisions are considered (where applicable) for each client depending on their needs including flush non-slip flooring, accessible controls, lever handles/faucets, adjusted heights for grab rails, benches, mirrors and basins.
Your new NDIS bathroom will be safe, compliant, functional and personalised. Because it will be tailored just for you.
Compliment your home
Just because it’s an NDIS bathroom renovation, doesn’t mean you have to compromise on luxury and style. You don’t want to finish up with something ugly that doesn’t match your home. We can plan your renovation and work the budget to incorporate a contribution from you for any extras or high-end materials you may prefer for your benchtops, tiling, fittings and other decorative features.
The look and feel of your bathroom includes colours, lighting, surfaces, sounds and hardware and these affect the visual appeal and personal experience of your bathroom. Our design team can take you through the options available, the selection process and what works for your design and budget.

Ventilation and waterproofing is important
Bathrooms are exposed to frequent moisture and humidity… the ideal environment for mould and mildew growth which can cause odour, surface deterioration and health risks. Our team will ensure that adequate ventilation is incorporated into your bathroom renovation where it is needed (such as exhaust fans), based on its size and layout.
Our waterproofing is completed by a trained specialist using the correct products and techniques compliant with Australian Standard AS-3740 (Waterproofing of Wet Areas), which sets out the requirements for the materials, design and installation of waterproofing for domestic wet areas for residential buildings. A Certificate of Waterproofing will be provided to you on completion of your renovation.
Unique way of working
Our line of work means foot traffic, dust, noise and smells. Most builders don’t invest much in mitigation of these unpleasantries, but we do. We have a clean, professional way of working, designed to protect your home.
Right from the start we seal the workspace with zip-lock bags. We install a temporary ‘floating floor’ to protect your floor coverings from work boots being taken on/off and materials coming in and out. Doors are taped. We’ve invested in industrial vacuums and extraction fans to trap dust and smells associated with specific heavy duty equipment we may use. We minimise noise so that things are calm, controlled and of as least disturbance as possible. Our entire team (including regular trades) are fully trained on our processes.
We offer a professional service and it’s our mantra to leave your home as if we weren’t there – except you have a new bathroom! It’s important to us, just like your home and belongings are to you.
Friendly and professional
Having a disability, acquired injury or restricted mobility can be challenging. We’re compassionate and considerate of individual circumstances and the impacts that an NDIS bathroom renovation may have on our client.
